Ex-Nasarawa Dep Gov Regains Freedom After N4m Ransom

The former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Professor Onje Gye-Wado, has been freed by his abductor after the sum of N4 million was paid as ransom.

It was also learnt that the kidnappers collected the ransom near Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga, with 200 naira recharge card.

Recall that NIGERIACRIME reported that the politician was kidnapped in his village in Rinza of Wamba local government area of Nasarawa state last Thursday.

Earlier, the abductors demanded N70 million ransom before he would be released.

A family source who is monitoring the development disclosed in Lafia on Saturday that the kidnappers placed a call for the first time since the abduction of the Professor.

According to the source, the family members are pleading with the abductors to accept N2 million instead of the N70 million that was requested because of the unavailability of cash occasioned by the Easter holiday.

However, the Nasarawa State Police Commissioner, Nansel Nimyel, confirmed the release of the former deputy governor.

The family reportedly negotiated the N70 million initially demanded by the kidnappers as ransom to N4 million to secure his release.

Gye-Wado was therefore freed from the kidnappers’ den close to Angwan chiyawa, close to those hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon.

He was taken back to the Palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, upon his release.

The professor’s release was also confirmed by a former NUJ chairman and also a former commissioner of information in the state, Mr Dogo Shamma.

“To God be the Glory Prof. Onje, has finally been released from the hands of kidnappers just now.”
