Family Protest Alleged Removal Of Corpse’s Parts In Ibadan

There was tension in the Ososami area of Ibadan, capital of Oyo State as members of the family of a deceased patient and residents protested the alleged removal of some body parts from the corpse.

The deceased, who was 91 years old was said to have been hospitalised over a week ago but died on Sunday evening.

On reaching the hospital to claim the corps of the nonagenarian, Rachel Osuntolu on Monday, the children discovered that her body parts have been tampered with.

The incident, which occurred at the Ibadan Central Hospital, Ibadan, has reportedly caused tension in the area as the deceased family members and some residents have taken to the street to protest the development.

There were said to have blocked the entrance of the street where the hospital was located to demand justice.

Speaking to journalists at the protest ground, some children of the nonagenarian explained that they left the hospital around 8pm on Sunday evening with plan to take the corpse to a morgue on Monday morning.

They said they were all surprised when they saw blood on the floor of the room where the corpse was kept while some pounds of flesh on the woman’s forehead and arm had been removed.

All attempts to speak with the head of administration of the hospital, Oluwaseun Haastrup, proved abortive as she refused to commented on the situation.

Oyo Police spokesman, Adewale Osifeso when contacted said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.

The Divisional Police Officer of Iyaganku and his team were on ground to prevent breakdown of law and order at the scene of the incident.
