Gunmen who kidnapped, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Professor Adigun Agbaje. along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have demanded N50 million for his release.
NigeriaCrime.com learned that Professor Adigun Agbaje was abducted alongside two students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, on Friday night around Sat Guru Maharaji Garden on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, a police officer was killed before the gunmen made away with their victims.
Professor Adigun Agbaje, who is on sabbatical at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, was returning to Ibadan around 6 pm when he was ambushed.
One of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic students has been identified as Miss Oluwatobi Orekoya is a final-year student of Business Administration.
It was also gathered that the kidnappers who contacted the victim’s families are demanding N50 million for the release of Professor Agbaje, while the parents of each of the students were asked to pay N10 million ransom.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Mr Yemi Ajibola said, “I was informed of the incident by the school Students’ Union President, Damilola Ajani.
He added that the institution’s management has taken necessary moves and gotten in touch with relevant authorities to ensure their safe release.
On his part Chairman of NANS, Ogun Joint Campus Committee, Comrade Simeon Damilola Kehinde said the apex student body in the state is doing everything humanly possible to ensure their release.
The President of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Student Union Government, Damilola Ajani, while confirming the incident, appealed to the public for financial assistance and prayers towards the release of the abducted students.
Efforts to get reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, proved abortive as calls put across to his phone were not going.
Recall that a few days ago an unspecified number of road users, including students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, who were returning to school after the eight months Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, strike were kidnapped.
Some lucky commuters, who managed to escape, said the kidnappers attacked at least six commercial buses, riddled them with bullets and diverted the occupants to nearby bushes.
It was gathered that the kidnappers are already contacting the families of victims, demanding N30 million ransom.
