Four Child Traffickers Arrested In Benue

Four suspected child traffickers operating around the Internally Displaced Persons camp located at North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi, the state capital has been apprehended by men of the Benue State Police Command.

The development was conveyed to the journalists in the state by the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene.

The suspected traffickers were identified as Member Friday, who is the kingpin’s wife and accomplice, Stephen Terungwa, Sughter Akegh and Atom Gideon.

Anene told journalists that the kingpin, Firday, escaped the arrest.

The statement read, “During the interview session, the suspects confessed to having recruited pregnant girls who gave birth and handed over to one Friday, the kingpin who has been on the run.

“They were paid N150,000 for each pregnancy that was delivered.

“One child that was earlier reported missing by his parents at Saudi Police Division was also rescued from the house of the said kingpin.”

The command advised members of the public to ensure that their children were in safe places at all times, especially during the holidays.

In another development, the Katsina State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested three suspected members of a notorious syndicate whose speciality is breaking into houses in Katsina communities to rob.

The new spokesman of the Command, DSC Buhari Hamisu, said the suspects had in the course of the investigation confessed to committing the offence.

While confessing, Hamisu said the suspects admitted to having conspired with their ring leader, one Yahaya Shua’ibu also known as “Jidda” and three others now at large and burgled a residence and a compound of two flats of one Jafaru Sani Buhari and Buraimoh Abbas Olayemi at Shararrar Pipe Quarters Katsina and stole a number of items worth thousands of Naira.

DSC Hamisu said exhibits recovered from the suspects during the NSCDC team search include one mattress, two freezers, a sewing machine, a gas cooker, a grinding machine, a tiger generator, an electricity Stabilizer, a Kettle, a hand saw a submersible wire, and a bag containing sockets and ceiling fan.

Hamisu noted that the suspects will be charged to a competent court, for prosecution after the investigation is concluded.

He said the Katsina NSCDC Command under the leadership of Commandant Jamilu Indabawa is warning all criminals and miscreants in the State to desist from their evil acts as the corps and other security agencies will not relent in fishing out all mischief makers.
