Gunmen Attack Adamawa Police Headquarters

 

There was tension in Yola, the Adamawa State capital as gunmen attacked the Police headquarters in the early hours of Wednesday.

The attack was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who assured that things were under control.

The attack on the police headquarters, which is located at the heart of Jimeta community, in Yola North Local Government Area, sent residents into panic.

The police image maker disclosed that the attack was repelled, but the identities of those behind it was unknown.

One source said the attackers were military personnel on a revenge mission following the alleged killing of a military officer by the police.

It could not be independently verified if military personnel were involved.

The police said investigations is ongoing to ascertain the cause of the attack and those behind it and urged residents of the area to continue to carry out their lawful activities.

In another development, at least 17 people were killed in an auto crash on Tuesday at Takalafia village on Yawuri Expressway, in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State.

Mr Bisi Kazeem, the FRSC Public Education Officer, confirmed the accident in a statement he issued in Abuja.

Kazeem explained that the accident occurred at about 3 am, adding that it involved 229 people, comprising 220 male adults, four female adults, and five male children.

According to him, the crash involved a DAF articulated vehicle engaged in speed violation resulting in loss of control.

Kazeem said that 206 male adults, one female adult and one male child were rescued, but had different degrees of injuries.

“A total of 17 persons were killed in the crash. The injured victims have been evacuated to Kontagora General Hospital, Niger, for immediate medical attention.

“The dead were deposited in the mortuary of the same hospital,’’ he said.
