Three police operatives have been killed following the invasion of gunmen who attacked two of the Police Area Command in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Nigeriacrime.com gathered that the hoodlums stormed the Police Area Command early hours of Saturday in large numbers and started shooting sporadically on approaching the Police station.
The hoodlums were said to have thrown Impoverished Explosive Devices, IEDs, and Petrol bombs into the building housing the Police station before gaining entrance before they burnt part of the building.
Saturday’s attack will be the sixth attack on Police facilities in Anambra within the month February, raising questions on the ability of the present crop of Policemen and their leadership to adequately protect lives and properties in the state.
However, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, while confirming the incident, said the situation has been brought under control as the Command remains resolute to enhance the safety of life and property in the state.
He lamented the killing of the Police operatives and called for calm, adding that the Police have reinforced security in the area to enhance the safety of life and property in the state.
According to Ikenga, “The Anambra State Police Command, has reinforced security in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, following the attack on the Ogidi area command in the early hours of today 18/2/2023, where three Police operatives paid the supreme price.
“The hoodlums started shooting sporadically on approaching the Area Command, they threw IEDs and Petrol bombs before gaining entrance into Ogidi Police Area Command. Unfortunately, the buildings in the Police facility were affected.
“However, the command observed with grave concern the loss of lives and valuables as a result of this attack, calls for calm as the Police are resolute in depriving these criminal elements of the space, they desire to perpetrate their evil acts and enhance, we are committed to the safety of life and property in the state.
“Meanwhile, the incident is being accessed and Police operations are still ongoing, we will update the public on the latest development on the incident.”
