An 80-year-old grandmother has been raped to death by some unidentified hoodlums in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The unfortunate incident happened during the weekend.
NIGERIACRIME gathered that the lifeless body of the deceased woman was discovered inside her farm situated in the Costain axis of the local government area of the state.
She was said to have been raped by her assailants before they murdered her.
When she failed to return to her home after leaving her farm last Wednesday, she was declared missing.
Due to the position in which her corpse was discovered, sources within the agrarian community argued that the victim was raped to death.
According to one of the sources, the bereaved community has experienced a high rate of rape in recent time, discouraging women from accessing their farms within the community.
The source added that a suspect, Sunday, who is a popular palm wine tapper within the community, had been arrested by some youths after the mobile phone of the deceased elderly woman was found on him.
During interrogation, the suspect opened up that the victim was allegedly attacked and killed by suspected herders, the source said.

However, the suspect has been handed over to the police at Costain for investigation.
When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated that she would get back for details but has not reverted as of press time.
In another news, an explosion caused by a gas cylinder has claimed the lives of no fewer than four persons in the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
An eyewitness, Usman Muhamma, during a telephone conversation with our correspondent, said the explosion occurred in a welder’s shop in the community.
“It is very unfortunate; we have been suffering from insecurities, especially in the hands of bandits, and now we suffer this kind of explosion.
“The explosion killed those people, tore their body parts and scattered them all over the place. Men of the Nigerian Police Force came to the scene to evacuate their remains,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sanusi Abubakar, while confirming the incident to our correspondent, said the explosion resulted in the death of four persons.
He explained that the explosion was not connected to the security challenges bedevilling the area but was a result of an explosion from a gas cylinder in the shop of a local welder in the community.
Abubakar also noted that three other persons who sustained varying degrees of injury had been receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the state.
Contacted, the Chairman of the LGA, Abubakar Danali, confirmed the incident but could not ascertain the casualty figures because he was not in town when the unfortunate incident happened.
