Katsina Police arrest suspect in child’s murder, arson

The Katsina State Police Command is currently investigating a suspected arsonist and murderer.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that the suspect identified as Surajo Magaji, 35, of Makwalla Quarters in Danja Township, Danja LGA, was arrested on April 10, 2024, following a tip-off.

Confirming the arrest, the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said the suspect was paraded at the Command’s headquarters.

ASP Sadiq disclosed Surajo Magaji was initially caught by the complainant trespassing at his residence at about 3:00 am and could not provide a reasonable explanation for his action.

ASP Sadiq, further revealed that Magaji is suspected to be responsible for the murder of the victim’s five-year-old son, whose body was found dumped in a well in 2023. The suspect is also alleged to have made several unsuccessful attempts to set the complainant’s house on fire.

The suspect confessed to the crimes during the investigation and will be arraigned in court upon completion, ASP Sadiq said.

The Katsina Police Command also reported the arrest of a suspect for culpable homicide. The 55-year-old suspect, Ahmadu Usman, is a herbalist from Farfaru village, Batagarawa LGA, Katsina State.

ASP Sadiq said, 32-year-old Rahinatu Hassan, a pregnant woman from Gyanke village in Batagarawa LGA, KATSINA went into labour and experienced complications on April 1, 2024.

However, the herbalist when consulted, despite lacking proper medical training, forcefully delivered the baby, with the head severed from the body, causing severe injuries to the mother.

Upon receipt of the report, detectives were promptly dispatched to the scene and the suspect was arrested. During the investigation, he confessed to committing the offence, Sadiq disclosed.
