Kogi: APC, PDP Supporters Clash, Many Injured

A clash between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has left several person injured in Kogi State late Wednesday.

It was learnt that the violent disagreement occurred in the Idah Local Government Area of the state.

According to the reports available to NIGERIACRIME, a police officer sustained bullet injuries during the gun duel between the rival supporters.

Also, there was destruction of vehicles and properties, while some individuals sustained injuries.

The victims of the clash are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the area.

Confirming this on Thursday, the Kogi State Police Command, through a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Ovye Aya, said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand Onuoha has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Aya stated that the CP, while condemning the incident, noted that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked to commence investigations.

“The CP reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to continue to engage the critical stakeholders in Election Security Management to ensure a secure environment for electoral process.

” Command is ever determined in providing a level playing ground for all Political Parties as they embark on campaigns, rallies, procession among others,” the statement said.

The Police Command also issued warning to troublemakers ahead of the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State.

The CP stressed that the Police, alongside other security agencies involved in Election Security Management, will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone caught disrupting the electoral process.

Moving to another development, four persons were feared killed on Thursday in an accident involving a correctional custodial centre van and commercial okada riders in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

The accident occurred at the ‘C’ Police Division, Oja-Oba roundabout, while the van was conveying inmates undergoing trial from the Oke-Kura custodial centre to court.

Confusion broke out in the area as a result of the incident, as commercial okada riders mobilized their colleagues to the area and caused temporary unrest.

Unconfirmed reports claimed four persons were crushed to death by the van.

The van was damaged by the mob and if not for the quick intervention of security agents, the situation would have turned bloody.

A combined security team of men of the Police and civil defense corps later moved the van away from the scene of the accident.
