Lagos Man Assaults Woman With Bottle, Arraigned

The Lagos State Police Command has dragged a 31-year-old man, Peter Ebunola, before an Ojo Magistrate’s Court in the state for allegedly assaulting a woman, Rashidat Olaitan.

The defendant, who was charged on Monday with fighting in public and assault, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 19, at the Isashi waterside area of Ojo.

According to Adeselu, the victim was assaulted by Ebunola using a broken bottle during an altercation.

She said that Olaitan was hospitalised following the assault.

The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 54 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Magistrate D S Odukoya admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 31 for trial.

In another development, a nursing mother, identified as Iyawo Ori-Ade, has died as a result of injuries she sustained in an accident when a private car rammed into the commercial motorcycle conveying her on Friday.

According to information available to NIGERIACRIME, the woman died on Saturday, and as a result of her death, her Agunbelewo area, residents have been thrown into mourning.

It was learnt that Iyawo Ori-Ade was on a commercial motorcycle to pay electricity bill around 3pm on Friday when a Toyota Camry car with Lagos registration number; KRD 930 HV, hit the commercial motorcycle.

According to an eyewitness, Sunkanmi Ayodele, “The car driver, Bello Ayodeji, was going to Okinni when he lost control of the car and crashed into the oncoming motorcycle.

“The woman and the rider sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital for treatment, where she eventually died.”

The Spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola also confirmed the accident.

Opalola said, “The passenger died in the hospital she was rushed to for treatment.

“Her corpse has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.”
