Lagos, Not Ogun Policeman Killed Soldier  – PPRO, Oyeyemi

The Ogun State Police Command has said that the policeman who killed a soldier in Odogunyan is an officer of the Lagos State Command.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the officer was a mobile policeman and Ogun State had no mobile base in Ogijo area.

The spokesperson added that Odogunyan falls under Lagos State not Ogun

Oyeyemi, lamented that the police station that was burnt was done out of misconception by the perpetrators.

He said, “That is a misconception, a mobile man serving in Lagos was the one that killed the soldier. I don’t know why the soldiers will go and start burning Ogijo Police Station when the issue happened in Odogunyan, which is in Lagos.

“We don’t have any mobile base in Ogijo, so how can the mobile policeman be from Ogijo?” he questioned.

Earlier, the Oyeyemi’s counterpart in Lagos State, Benjamin Hundeyin, through his verified Twitter account, stated that the unfortunate incident took place at Ogijo and not Odogunyan.

He said, “There are stories making the rounds that riots have broken out in Odonguyan, Ikorodu. We wish to clarify that the unrest is at Ogijo, Ogun State, though very close to Ikorodu, Lagos. Our officers are at alert & would not allow any breakdown of law and order within Lagos State.”

Recall that a policeman was said to have stabbed an unidentified soldier to death in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, causing panic in the environs.

The incident happened at the border town of Odogunyan, which is very close to Ogijo in Ogun State.

Videos have also surfaced online showing the Ogijo police station allegedly razed in fire by soldiers.

The voice in a viral video, which showed that the Ogijo police station was razed in fire said, “They burnt (Ogijo) station live. Ogijo Ikorodu. They went to kill soldier in front of school at Odogunyan.”

According to reports, the policemen ran away to Ogijo Police Station when they discovered the victim killed was an officer.

A source in the area said he narrowly escaped death as people were shooting in the area.

The source said, “I could not identify those shooting because it was already dark. As I came down from the bus, they just started shooting and everybody scampered for safety. I narrowly escaped death tonight.”
