A 30-year-old man, identified as Oscar Akpan, has been brought before an Ajah Magistrates’ Court by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defrauding a car buyer of N1,300,000 million.
Akpan, who is facing two counts of obtaining under false pretences and stealing, was arraigned on Friday.
He was arraigned after the police apprehended him, for allegedly absconding with the a customer’s money.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Chinedu Njoku, the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum from the complainant, Blessing Sunday, with a promise to supply her with a Volkswagen T4 car.
Njoku told the court that the incident happened on October 30, 2022, on Jakande Estate in the Lekki area of the state.

The offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, Njoku told the court during the hearing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him by the police.
Consequently, Magistrate O. M. Daramola granted him bail in the sum of N 300,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned the case till January 9, 2023, for mention.
