Several staffs of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) who were trapped inside the office building in Yaba area of Lagos that was engulfed with fire have been rescued.
NigeriaCrime.com learned that the fire which began at about 7.25 am on Wednesday morning was successfully contained by firefighters who also rescued staff unhurt from the building.
Although the cause of the fire was not ascertained, the management of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), has disclosed that no life was lost.
According to the Head Public Affairs Department, Moyosola Adesina “the Management of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, wishes to inform the general public that there was an early morning fire incident at the WAEC National Office, Yaba, Lagos. It was swiftly contained by a combined team of firefighters.
“Thankfully, no life was lost and all important documents and records are intact,” Adesina added.
In a related development, three people were on Wednesday morning crushed to death, while others sustained injuries in a fatal accident that occurred at about 6.53 am, inward Mile 12.
It was gathered that the accident happened when a Red bus operated by Asset Management Company under a public-private partnership rammed into a Yellow commercial bus at Ketu, Lagos State.
However, the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue while those injured have been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Spokesperson, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofeek said the incident was unfortunate and urged people to make use of designated bus stops and pedestrian bridges to avoid future occurrences.
“The incident is unfortunate. Designated bus-, stops and pedestrian bridges are constructed for our use. Let me seize this opportunity to advise people to make good use of it and stop endangering our lives.”
“We have called for our trucks to come and remove the accidented vehicles to allow free traffic flow.”
The Spokesperson said men of the State Environmental and Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) have deposited the bodies at the morgue.
