A man, Yusuf Suleman, has been arrested by personnel of the Nigerian Customs Service in Kebbi State, for allegedly importing illicit drugs in the state.

This was confirmed by the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, who also handed over 104 parcels of Indian hemp, 359 sacks of Diazepam and 70 packs of Tramadol seized in two separate operations to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Oramalugo said the briefing was focused on the anti-smuggling activities of the command in the last four weeks.

He said on June 11, 2023, based on a tip-off from a well-meaning citizen about a vehicle conveying offensive goods, the officers of the command through a stop and search along Kamba-Kyanagakwai Road on a vehicle with chassis No: IHGRC3KEA246069, was intercepted with 104 parcels of cannabis sativa.

“We also retrieved 99 5mg diazepam tablets which were found concealed in the vehicle driven by one suspect, Sulaiman Yusuf. The suspect was arrested and will be prosecuted,” Oramalugo said.

Similarly, the command patrol team made a seizure of 70 packs of Tramadol, and 260 diazepam tablets were also made on Monday, June 5, 2023, around Kamba/Rijiyar Maikafi bush.

In another development, the Police Command in Enugu State, on Sunday, said it has recovered one locally-fabricated double-barrel gun with two cartridges (one live and the other expended), from hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers.

The armed suspects were said to be escaping the crime scene at New Artisan Bridge, off Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway when nemesis caught up with them.

The development was contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday in Enugu.

Ndukwe stated that the feat was achieved by police operatives serving at the New Haven Division of the Command on June 16.

“The hoodlums abandoned their firearm with the ammunition on sighting police operatives, who immediately went on their trail, following the receipt of credible information that the miscreants were sighted in the location, perfecting their criminal plans.

“Meanwhile, discreet investigative and moves to fish out the fleeing criminal elements are underway.

“Further development on the matter shall be made public,” he said.
