NDLEA links Tin-can drug seizure to cartel operating at airport

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has linked importation of the recently seized 23 packages of heroine at the Tin-can Island port, Lagos to the same cartel operating at the nation’s airport in Lagos.

Speaking while receiving the illicit drugs from the Tin-can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, the Tin-can NDLEA boss, Mohammed Abubakar, said that investigation has linked the drug seizure to the same cartel the brought the recently seized heroine at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

Recall that the Tin-can Island Custom Command had handed over seized items, including arms and ammunition, Indian hemp and heroin to the officials for the Department of States Security, DSS and their counterpart NDLEA.

Abubakar said: “Through the effort of the Special Intelligence Unit of the NDLEA, which provided the intelligence and processed it, cumulating in what you are witnessing today.

“Some of you asked whether there was any arrest, it is the work of a special syndicate in trafficking of illicit hard drugs across different nations. The arrest here has a relationship with the recent arrest at the Murtala Mohamed International Airport, MMIA.

“I think some of you are witnesses to what happened at the airport. We made an arrest of 51.9 kilograms of heroine. There are the same syndicate, virtually they are operating everywhere, both at the seaport and the airport but with the collaboration of our sister agencies, especially Customs, we have achieved the success you see today.

“This is a warning to those who want to continue in this illicit and dangerous trade across the nation. There are lots of arrests that have been made at the airport in relation to this and that is why we here at the seaport, concerning this seizure and is why it is like we are not doing anything about it for now because most of the people connected to the import have been rounded up.”
