Nobody Tried To Kill Me – Gov Bello Refutes Aide’s Claim

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has refuted claims by his media aide that there was an assassination attempt on his life on Sunday.

Recall that the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, had raised the alarm that some attackers dressed in military uniforms attempted to kill the governor on his way to an official engagement in Abuja around 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 22.

Earlier, Fanwo said, “The attackers dressed in military uniforms waylaid the governor’s convoy and started shooting sporadically at his vehicle and other vehicles in the convoy. It took the swift intervention of the security personnel attached to the governor to foil the satanic plans of the unknown soldiers.”

Debunking the claim in a Facebook Live on Sunday, Bello denied such an attempt on his life, saying, “Misguided elements will take this out of context. You are not doing me any favour by putting fake news out there, saying Governor Yahaya Belo escaped assassination when there was nothing of that nature.

“There was a minor fracas between the military and the police attached to my convoy. It was resolved within five minutes.”

In a separate development, an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State on Monday sentenced a 47-year-old man, Ugochukwu Sunday, to two years imprisonment for breaking into a company to steal a water dispenser and other items worth N960,000.

The Magistrate, Mr O. O. Okiki, sentenced Sunday to prison without an option of a fine, after pleading guilty to stealing, damages and burglary.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the convict committed the offences on Oct. 17 at 5.30 a.m. at Ota.

He added that the convict maliciously damaged the ceiling while trying to break into the company.

He said the offences contravened Sections 390(9), 414 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006
