A notorious cannabis trafficker, Muhammad Bako Sambo has bagged a 10-year jail term.

Nigeriacrime.com gathered that the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) achieved a significant milestone with the conviction and sentencing of Muhammad Bako Sambo.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, made this known in a statement issued to newsmen.

He said the sentencing, which took place at the Federal High Court in Kano, resulted in a 10-year prison term for the offender.

According to him, “The prosecution of Sambo serves as a strong message to all individuals involved in the illegal trade and transportation of cannabis and other prohibited substances.

“Sambo’s operations involved the transportation of large quantities of Cannabis Sativa from southern states to the northern region.”

Maigatari pointed out that the convict was apprehended by NDLEA officers in November 2020 after initially evading arrest.

He added that a subsequent search of his vehicle led to the discovery of 201 kilograms of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa noting that further investigations confirmed the substance and established Sambo’s guilt under the NDLEA Act.

He further said the Command under the leadership of Commander Abubakar Idris Ahmad, the NDLEA has been successfully combating illicit drug activities within the state.

“Commander Ahmad commended the dedication of his prosecutors and reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to combatting drug trafficking.

“He emphasized that the agency will continue working tirelessly to ensure that offenders face the full consequences of their actions.

“The NDLEA encourages citizens to report any suspicious activities and assures them of confidentiality and protection. Together, the agency aims to create a drug-free and safer society,” the statement however reads.
