Ogun Traffic Official Kidnapped On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

An official of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Popoola Olasupo, has been abducted by some yet-to -be-identified gunmen while on his way to his duty post alongside one other member of the corps.

NIGERIACRIME learnt that the incident happened around the Eledumare-Fidiwo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State at about 6.30 am on Sunday.

The incident was disclosed by a source from TRACE, who spoke anonymously.

The source, who did not want his name in print due to the sensitive nature of the matter added that policemen in the state and some volunteers are currently on the trail of the gunmen.

According to the source, the abductors, who were heavily armed, emerged from the bush, opened fire on a commercial bus in which the official was travelling and he was the only one abducted.

All effort to reach of the spokesperson for TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

Akinbiyi did not answer the calls made to his mobile and had not responded to a text message sent to him.

When contacted, however, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

“Our anti-kidnapping squad is already after them. We are combing the forest and we know that they will all be arrested.

“Ogun State is not a ground for criminals to settle. It is either they leave or we smoke them out of this state,” Oyeyemi said.
