An okada rider Bakare Akeem has been sentenced to death by hanging by an Ogun State High Court sitting in Ilaro, Ogun State for killing his friend, Basiru Basit over a piece of meat valued at fifty Naira only.

In the suit HCT/21C/17, Bakare Akeem, a resident of Itele Lafenwa, Ado-Odo Ota local government area of Ogun State, was said to have killed his friend and roommate over an argument over a piece of meat valued at N50 only.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that both the victim and the convict were Okada riders and on the fateful day, Akeem had bought rice with four pieces of meat, while Basit was able to buy only two pieces.

On getting home to eat the rice, Basit took a piece of meat from Akeem which resulted in a serious argument.

“Realising what could come out of the issue, Basit ran away and hid only to return home at about 10 in the evening.

It was also gathered that when Akeem saw Basit approaching, he took a broken bottle and violently stabbed Basit in the chest twice.

“He was rushed to hospital but gave up the ghost the second day.

Delivering his judgement, Presiding Judge, N.O Durojaye said from the evidence provided by the police and eyewitness, the court was convinced that Akeem deliberately killed Basit.

He, therefore, sentenced him to death by hanging.
