A 14-year-old boy, Marvelous Asefon, has been dragged before an Ondo State Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, the state capital, for allegedly killing his neighbour, Sunday Ogele.
The accused was said to have stabbed the deceased to death with a pair of scissors during a scuffle over a girlfriend, in Oka Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state in April.
Following Ogele’s death, Asefon was arrested by men of the State Police Command and was later charged to court and arraigned on one count of murder.
The charge read, “That you, Marvelous Asefon, ‘m’ on April 20 Sunday, 2023 at 8:pm at Kanmu, Oka-Akoko in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did kill one Sunday Ogele ‘m’ 17 years old by stabbing him with scissors in his rib, which led to his death.”
The offence contravenes Section 319(1) and 316 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 2, Laws of Ondo State, 2016.
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
His plea was, however, rejected by the court.
The prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, in an application, urged the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending the issuance of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions of the state.

The magistrate, Folashade Aduroja ordered the remand of the defendant and adjourned the case till June 11 for further hearing of the case.
Similarly, police in Ondo State on Saturday said it had arrested a man, identified as Sunday, in connection with the death of an 80-year-old woman in the state.
The octogenarian, whose identity had not been revealed at the time of filing this report, was found dead inside the bush on her farm located in Costain area of Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The deceased was said to have been declared missing a few days earlier before her lifeless body was found on the farm.
It was gathered that the residents of the community suspected that the old woman must have been raped to death based on the position of her corpse when it was found on the farm.
A source said the youths in the community later arrested the suspect, who is a palm wine tapper, having found the deceased’s telephone inside his pocket. They later handed him over to the police.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and said the suspect was already in the police net.
” Yes, I can confirm that the suspect is in our custody, he will soon be charged to court after the completion of the investigation, ” the PPRO stated.
