Ondo Hawker Killed By Drunk Driver

A bus, which allegedly rammed into a motor park in Odigbo town, the headquarters of the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has killed a teenager hawker, identified as Bassey Edet.

The accident, according to reports, involved a Toyota Picnic with registration number EPE 576DC.

The victim, when he met with the accident on Saturday, was selling snacks at the park.

The accident, which happened along the ever-busy Odigbo-Ore Road, threw the foster parents of the teenager and people around the area into mourning.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the vehicle, whose identity had not been revealed as at the time of filing this report, was allegedly drunk while driving.

The source said, “The driver was on top speed, rammed into the park and killed the teenager. The people who rushed to the scene of the accident were smelling alcohol from the driver’s body.”

It was learnt that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested by the police, while the damaged vehicle and motorcycle were towed to Odigbo Police Station.

The remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue in Ore.

Meanwhile, the Ondo state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, said investigation had commenced into the incident.

A woman identified as Zainab Ibrahim, at the Kpaduma ll area of Asokoro in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on Saturday, died while separating a fight that ensued between her two sons, Inusa and Usman.

It was learnt that one of her sons, Inuwa, mistakenly macheted their mother on her left hand.

The source explained, “Zainab was rushed to a private hospital where she died.”

He said Inusa had attempted to use the cutlass on his brother, but mistakenly cut his mother on her left hand.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the FCT command, Josephine Adeh, explained that Inusa was at large and that investigation was ongoing.

She said that the Command received a distress call and rushed to the scene, stressing that the mother was taken to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.

She explained that Usman is in custody, while Inusa is at large.
