One injured, N5m lost in gas explosion

A ghastly gas explosion has injured one person while properties estimated at about N5m were destroyed on Tuesday.

The explosion also destroyed seven containers in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The incident occurred around 7.30 pm at Baba-Sojas Junction along the Alagbado Specialist Hospital Road, Okelele, in the Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state.

According to PUNCH gathered that the fire emanated from a gas retail shop.

It was learnt that a woman, said to be the wife of the owner of the gas retail shop, sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A victim of the explosion, who sold baby wares in one of the shops, Mrs Bashirat Bashar, said the fire affected her shop.

“I just filled my shop with goods worth over N2.5m on Monday in preparation for Sallah sales. All the goods were burnt in the fire,” she said.

A source also claimed that the owner of the gas retail shop lost N2m cashino the incident.

The Director of the state fire service, Falade Olumuyiwa, advised owners of filling stations and gas plants to procure necessary safety equipment for their outlets across the state.
