The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dragged one Bayo Ayeni before a Grade I Area Court, Kubwa in Abuja over an accusation that he indulged in black magic to defraud a businesswoman.
The 47-year-old man was docked on Wednesday over offences bordering criminal conspiracy, unlawful juju and cheating.
According to the prosecution counsel, John Okpa, the complainant, who was identified as Blessing Joseph, was conspired against and induced by the suspect and his gang members.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant and his cohorts charmed the victim to defraud her of the sum of N234,350, four male shirts valued at N40, 000, and female dresses and trousers worth N32,000.

Deceiving Blessing, the defendant allegedly told her that she will have more money if she gave him the items from her boutique located in Dutse Alhaji.
Furthermore, the prosecutor stated that the defendant’s deceit caused the complainant wrongful loss, adding that the offence contravened the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The presiding judge, Yahaya Sheshi, ordered that the defendant be granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Sheshi said the surety must provide two recent passport photographs, voter’s card or national identity card and deposit N300,000 as security to the court.
The judge adjourned the case to January 17 for further hearing.
