Police arrest fake soldier for impersonation in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected fake member of the armed forces for impersonation in Lagos.

The suspect identified as Sgt Major Femi Balogun was arrested on 30 March, 2024 at about 3:15 PM during a routine visibility patrol along Fagbile Estate Ijegun Isheri Oshun.

It was gathered that Balogun was in full military uniform when he was arrested and taken to the station.

Confirm the arrest the Spokesperson Lagos State Police Command SP Benjamin Hundeyin said: “Immediately after his arrest, our security agreement reached with the military guard commander guarding the pipeline in ijeododo immediately sent for them to come to identify the suspect.”

“During interrogation, it was confirmed that Sgt Major Femi Balogun is a fake military officer.”

In a related development, the Lagos State Police Command is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a ten-year-old boy, Israel Ogunleye, who was strangled to death by another ten-year-old during an argument on 29th March 2024 in Ejigbo area of Lagos.

It was learned that Israel Ogunleye was playing football with some boys at Oluwole Street Powerline Ejigbo Lagos, where his mother’s shop is situated when he argued with one of the boys named Ezekiel Evbota.

However, trouble started when the argument degenerated terribly when 10-year-old Ezekiel held Israel on the neck and strangled him to death.

Confirming the incident the Spokesperson Lagos State Police Command SP Benjamin Hundeyin said: “On 29 March 2024 at about 6: 20 PM a report was received at Ejigbo Division from a complainant that stated that his son Israel Ogunleye ‘m’ aged 10 was playing football with some boys at oluwole Street Powerline Ejigbo Lagos, where his mother’s shop is situated, when he had an argument with one of the boys named ezekiel Evbota ‘m’ aged 10, who held him on the neck and strangulated him until he died.”

Explaining further, Hundeyin said: “Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the scene, where the photograph of the corpse was taken and the body was taken to the General Hospital Isolo where the doctor confirmed him dead.

“The body was transferred to the mortuary for post-mortem examination. the suspect is in police custody and an investigation is in progress,” he added
