Police Arrest Lady, Lover For Dumping Infant In Dustbin

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a young woman, identified as Blessing Ben and her lover, Luka Iliyasu, for allegedly killing and dumping the body of their newborn in a dustbin.

Operatives of the command are presently grilling the 20-year-old lady and her boyfriend, NIGERIACRIME learnt.

It was gathered that Luka of Police Barracks, Yola, impregnated Blessing. The lovers were said to have been dating for about two years.

Blessing, a resident of Jambutu, within the same Yola North LGA as Luka, was delivered of her baby last Saturday, July 8 but allegedly killed the infant and dumped the remains in a dustbin in their compound.

While interrogating the lovers, Blessing denied claims that she killed the baby, insisting that she delivered the baby on her own and the baby came out lifeless, giving her no option but to throw the lifeless child into a dustbin.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, the woman claimed that she has been living with her aunt, and that even her aunt did not know that she was pregnant for nine months until she gave birth.

She narrated that her aunt was out of town at the time she was delivered of the baby, saying that when she discovered that she gave birth to a dead baby, she kept the corpse for two days after which she dumped the remains inside a dustbin.

Nguroje said the police would get the full story as both Blessing and her boyfriend were in police custody and were still being investigated.

Meanwhile, the corpse of an unidentified woman was Thursday recovered by the personnel of the Kwara State fire service from Asa River, along Emir’s Road in Ilorin, the state capital.

The lifeless body of the yet-to-be-identified woman, about 46 years old, was discovered at about 18:44 hours.
