A midnight inferno has destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira at Ita Amodu, along Oja Oba Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State capital.
Nigeriacrime.com learned that the fire incident, which started around midnight destroyed about six shops, two storey buildings and another building with ten rooms before the Men of Fire Service together with Community Peace and Security Initiative were able to put off the fire.
According to one of the victims, Mr Christopher Obiagwu, who said he was called around midnight that his shop was on fire said that the inferno destroyed a roll of clothes worth nineteen million naira in his shop.
“It was the call that woke me up around midnight that my shop has been gutted by fire. I ran out at midnight and I couldn’t believe what I met when I got to my shop. Rolls of clothes worth over N 19M have been burnt to ashes. I need help to live.”He said
Another victim who is also the Babaloja of the Ita Amodu Market, Mr Najeem Adeleke said all the goods in his shop were destroyed by the inferno while calling on the Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to come to their aid.
Also one of the landlords of the affected houses, Mr Raji Rasaq appealed to well meaning individuals and government to assist them, saying the loss is too much for them to bear.
Some of the goods destroyed by the inferno are cotton materials and accessories, car paint, foam and, chair fabrics, soft drinks, refrigerators and other valuable materials.
