A driver with a Rivers State-based private company, identified as Peter Iheanyi, has been arrested for faking his own kidnap in connivance with his friend.
NIGERIACRIME learnt that the suspect connived with his friend, who was simply identified as Kelvin and some other suspects, to fake his abduction in order to collect a ransom from his company.
The suspect was paraded alongside some other suspects at the Rivers State Police command headquarters in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Iheanyi told newsmen that he diverted the company’s goods to his sister’s house which is located in Abia State and abandoned the vehicle along Aba-Port Harcourt expressway in a bid to convince the company that he was abducted.

According to the suspect, he made up the plan due to his inability to provide funds for his friend when he begged him for money.
The suspect said while his company did not pay the ransom, luck ran out of them after his wife and his brother who did not know anything about their plot, reported a kidnap case to the anti-kidnapping unit of the Rivers State Police command leading to their arrest.
On his part, Kelvin who said he is a “taxi driver” claimed not to have known that those who had hired him for his cab services were “carrying arms” with which they “shot” at someone.
The commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong had during the parade said efforts are ongoing to retrieve the remaining 438 bottles of cooking oil and to arrest other two suspects at large.
He disclosed that 562 bottles of the cooking oil valued at one million naira were recovered at Umo-Okoro in Imo State.
