A 17-year-old student of Unity High School, Ago Ika area of Abeokuta, identified simply as Sadiat has been reportedly killed in Ogun state.
Sadiat was hit by stray bullets while walking out of the school premises after finishing her examination on Thursday, 21 July.
It was gathered that the incident happened when OP MESA operatives were chasing a suspected internet fraudster, popularly known as”yahoo boys”, who ran into the area in an attempt to escape arrest.
In the process of hacking him down, the security operatives allegedly opened fire at him without taking into consideration, the presence of the students coming out of the school premises and other passersby.
Nigeriacrime.com learned Sadiat, who was rushed to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta, for treatment was pronounced: “dead on arrival”.
Also, three other students and a commercial motorcyclist were hit by stray bullets fired by the operatives.
Infuriated by the development, Sadiat’s colleagues stormed Enu – Gada Police Post to protest the death of their colleagues.
The students were said to have started throwing stones, broken bottles, and other objects they could lay their hands on when the most senior police officer on duty gave a directive that the students should be forcefully dispersed.
The security operatives’ reinforcement, which arrived at Enu Gada Police Post, however, allegedly fuelled the tension, consequent upon which the students were eventually dispersed, while passersby were indiscriminately arrested for either fuelling the riot or filming the scene of the crisis.
An SS 1 student of the school, Rafiu Ibrahim, alleged that the security operatives shot directly at the students without regard for their safety, even when it was obvious that they were in school uniform.”
Reacting to the incident command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, said when anti-cultists team was on routine patrol of the metropolis and sighted two amongst the most wanted cultists who have played major roles in various violent clashes in recent time, who are simply identified as ‘’Akuko Beggar’’ and ‘Slim cash’’.”
Oyeyemi disclosed that the team then rounded the duo up and got them arrested. As soon as they were arrested, some of their members around the place mobilised and attacked the police team; they succeeded in setting free one of the suspects simply known as “Akuko Beggar” after inflicting several machete cut injuries on one of the policemen, but the other suspect Slim cash was taken to custody.
“The hoodlums further mobilised themselves in large numbers, armed with dangerous weapons to attack the divisional headquarters at Enugada, but they were repelled by policemen. In the process, three persons were regrettably hit by stray bullets and they are all recuperating in the hospital.
