Suit Stopping EFCC From Probing Former Kano Governor, Ganduje, Withdrawn

A suit seeking to halt the probing of former governor Abdullahi Ganduje by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been withdrawn.

The suit was recalled by the Kano State Government in a letter signed by the Kano Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa Dederi, and addressed to Sanusi Musa (SAN).

The letter dated July 4, 2023 contained the notice of withdrawal of the suit submitted before the court.

According to the letter, “We write to notify you that Kano State Government and the Attorney General of Kano State wish to debrief you of the earlier instructions, given to you to handle the case NO: FHC/ KN/71/2023 between Attorney General of Kano State and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).”

The letter stated that Sanusi Musa, SAN, and his team members are instructed not to take any further steps on the matter, either by appearing in court or filing any processes regarding the case.

The Kano State Government had issued a fiat instrument to restrain EFCC from investigating the controversial dollar video under the former governor through the Ministry of Justice.

Ganduje asked a Kano State High Court to perpetually restrain the EFCC from investigating him over the video clips which showed him allegedly receiving bundles of dollars from a contractor.

Recall that the clips published online trended on social media in 2018 and allegedly showed Ganduje receiving bundles of dollar notes and stuffing them inside his flowing dress known as “babanriga.”

While Ganduje debunked the content of the videos, the Kano State House of Assembly subsequently set up a committee to investigate the allegations but the committee is yet to submit its finding report before a new assembly was reportedly inaugurated.

In a suit filed before the high court, the former Attorney General of the State asked the court to restrain the anti-graft commission from probing Ganduje until a suit between the former governor and the publisher of the Daily Nigerian, Jafaar Jafaar, was determined.
