On Thursday morning a fuel tanker discharging its products exploded midway and went up in flames at Saburi, Dei-Dei in Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC of the Federal Capital Territory FCT.
The sound of the explosion at the Orange filling Station sent shockwaves among staff, motorists and residents who immediately scampered to safety.
The 45,000-litre tanker was discharging its products at about 7:30 am when after offloading one and a half of the three compartments, it suddenly burst into flames.
However, firefighters from the Dei-Dei Fire Station of the Federal Fire Service, alongside personnel of the FCT Fire Service were immediately mobilised to the scene and were able to halt the fire from spreading, and consequently put it out after some hours.
In a related development, a Fire outbreak has razed down a five storey building at 5 Gbajumo Street Balogun Market, Island Lagos State.
It was gathered that the fire outbreak started at about 00.45 am on Thursday.
Confirming the incident, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, PS Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the Agency responded to distress calls concerning the incident.
However, upon arrival at the scene of the incident, a fire outbreak involving some shops on the ground floor of three storey building was encountered.”
Explaining further, he said that “the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.”
“Fortunately, no casualty was involved in the incident. Operation is ongoing, Oke-Osanyintolu added.
The Agency’s response team alongside two Lagos State fire service trucks, two Lagos Rescue Unit fire trucks and the police were present at the scene and worked together to subdue the inferno.
