Two Suspects Arrested With Fake $30,900 In Jigawa

Two suspects have been nabbed by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command over possession of counterfeit United State Dollars worth $30,900 US.

The development was conveyed to pressmen by the spokesman of the command CSC Adamu, on Friday while parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters, Dutse the state capital.

Adamu identified the two suspects as 25-year-old Danladi Umar and 35-year-old Abdurrahman Khalid.

According to him, “the suspects were arrested when One Danladi Umar lodged a complaint that one Abdurrahman Khalid deceived and defrauded him by linking him up with one Malam who collected the sum of N147,500 to provide him with a local charm.”

He said the latter owned up to the allegation but claimed that Danladi met him with fake foreign currency and asked him how to spend it without any hitch, which he told him that he knew one Mallam Haruna who lives in Nguru, Yobe State that will help him turn the fake foreign currency into genuine cash.

It was, however, gathered that the Mallam in question was unreachable via phone for days.

Danladi, who suspected foul play, reported the case to the NSCDC Divisional office in Sule Tankarkar LGA.

Danladi later confessed that he bought the fake currency from one Zakari (now at large) in Marabar Jos, Kaduna State, and purchased the three fake bundles of $10,000 at the rate of N75,000 (N25,000 per bundle).

CSC. Adamu said $30,900 US Dollars which is about 24 million Naira at the Investors and Exporters Foreign Exchange (I&E FX) window was recovered from the suspects.

He said the case of counterfeiting and criminal conspiracy is contrary to sections 369 and 96 of the constitution and punishable under sections 329 and 97 of the penal code law of Jigawa State.

The suspects will be charged to court for prosecution after all investigations were concluded.
