A master’s Student of University of Ilorin, Mathew Adeboye Balogun(a k.a Plato) has been rusticated by the institution’s authorities over alleged sexual molestation of vulnerable female students.
Unilorin said the action was contrary to Clause 3(a) viii, 3(b) and 4(k) of the Students’ Information and Regulations Handbook.
The weekly bulletin by the university revealed that Plato, a Master’s Degree student has Matriculation Number: 14/25OD062.
Balogun, until his expulsion was of the Department of Councillor Education, Faculty of Education of the university.
According to the school management, most of Plato’s victims were both admission seekers and existing students whom he often assured of admission and capable of influencing their scores/results on the condition that he has intimacy with them.
A letter of notification of expulsion from the University’s Student Affairs Unit with Reference number: UIL/SAU/SAO/2024/01, titled, “Re: Allegation of Misconduct against Balogun, Mathew Adeboye”, dated Wednesday, January 3, 2024, signed by the Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs, Mr. Moses Opaleke, copy of which was made available to journalists read in part: “Kindly recall that the social media was set agog with the report of sexual molestation by Balogun, Matthew Adeboye Matriculation number 14/25OD062 (aka Plato).
“Subsequently, he was invited to appear before the Student Disciplinary Committee on October 16, 2023, which he did not honour,” the letter said.
Furthermore, it stated: “At the second sitting of October 19, 2023, of the Student Disciplinary Committee when he showed up, he admitted to the second charge against him for misconducting himself in such a way that he took unlawful and undue advantages of vulnerable students and admission seekers by sexually molesting them under the pretense that he could influence their results and or offer them admissions into the university, contrary to Clause 3(a) viii, 3(b) and 4(k) of Students’ Information and Regulations Handbook.
“On October 25, 2023, he was served his letter of expulsion and consequently expelled from the university”, it stated.
