We’ll Prosecute Those Planning To Disrupt May 29 Inauguration – Police

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, on Monday announced that the police will arrest and prosecute those planning to disrupt the May 29 inauguration at the federal and state levels.

Baba, who said the police will defend the country’s democracy at all costs, added that suspected disruptors of the inauguration ceremonies would be “identified, promptly isolated, and brought to justice”.

The IGP vowed that his men will keep the country’s internal security stable during the inauguration and beyond, saying the police and other law enforcement agencies would not fold their hands and allow political actors to create tension ahead of the ceremony.

According to the police boss, “The inauguration ceremonies at all the national and state levels of government, are critical constitutional requirements for the sustenance of our political order as a nation.

“The Nigeria police is duty and legally bound to defend the nation’s democratic heritage and closely police the constitutional processes.

“Consequently, I assure the citizens that, our loyalty to our democratic and political order remains firm and unwavering. We will defend our democracy at all costs.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the accident happened at the Magboro axis of the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

A truck was said to have rammed into other vehicles on the road after it suffered brake failure.

The FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, Florence Okpe, confirmed that nine vehicles were involved in the accident.

According to reports available to NIGERIACRIME, most of the vehicles were badly damaged following the crash.

Okpe confirmed that four persons were injured in the accident that caused a gridlock on the axis. She, however, assured that “no life was lost in the incident.”
