A 22-year-old suspected child trafficker, Ayomide Fawehinmi has been rescued from a mob attack for allegedly stealing a child in the Empire area of Surulere.
Ayomide Fawehinmi was rescued and thereafter arrested after a distress call was received from members of the community about the mob action.
NigeriaCrime.com learned that the suspect lured a 15-year-old boy from his mother’s shop and was taking him to an unknown destination before he was accosted by a neighbor who raised the alarm.
Fawehinmi had already dispossessed the victim of an Itel android phone to cut off communication with his mother.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman Lagos State Police Command SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the victim has been rescued unhurt and the phone recovered, the investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s culpability. The suspect would be arraigned contingent on the outcome of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, commended the residents of Lagos State for always promptly alerting the authorities to suspicious persons/happenings.
however, he sternly warned members of the public to desist from jungle justice as it is a crime in itself.
Recall that two weeks ago a 29-year-old man Sanni Gafar, was almost lynched by a mob but was rescued after the police arrived the scene.
Gafar, who disguised as a woman was almost lynched in Ijora Badia area of the state on August 15, by a mob who accused him of being a terrorist.
Sanni Gafar who claims that he is an electrician was found with a bag containing three hammers, six screwdrivers, one pair of pliers, one chisel, five spanners, three rolls of black cellophane, cable wires, a 20mm bending spring, a pair of black trousers, and a plastic box of clips.
