65-year-old guard killed as hoodlums burn down Akere Parts market, Lagos

One person has been confirmed dead, as masked men burn down popular Akere Parts market, in Ajegunle, Lagos State.

The market which was worth billions of Naira were completely burnt down.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that the hoodlums came with four motorcycles carrying two persons each and guns along with a shuttle bus with seven persons all masked.

They started shooting sporadically at around 3.00 am to scare residents off.

In the process, they killed the taxi park security guard who tried to stop them.

It was learned that a similar attempt was made last week Thursday but they were overpowered by local security officials. The market leaders reported to the DPO, Tolu Post and he assured them that they will handle the situation.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigation into the early morning fire at the Akere Motor Spare Parts Market, Tolu, Olodi Apapa Lagos.

The fire which started at about 3 am was put out by a combined team of officers from Tolu Police Division and the Lagos State Fire Service. Sadly, a 65-year-old security guard lost his life in the incident.

However, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has urged Lagosians to remain calm as the State Criminal Investigation Department has been directed to take over the investigation towards unravelling the true circumstances surrounding the attack.

He equally calls for restraints in giving any form of extraneous colouration to the incident, while assuring that the outcome of the investigation will be made public.
