Haruna Mohammed, a journalist in Bauchi State, has been remanded in prison after he was alleged to have incited ‘disturbance of public peace and blackmailed’ the State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
Nigeriacrime.com gathered that Mohammed who is the Publisher of WikkiTimes, an online media outfit in Bauchi State, was arraigned at the Magistrate/District Court on Tuesday following his arrest in Duguri, the hometown of Governor Bala Mohammed on Saturday.
A copy of the allegation levelled against Haruna by the Complainant, Commissioner of Police, claimed that the accused person hired some women to incite disturbance of public peace.
He said that Haruna was instigating them to make utterances that would prejudice the peace and well being of the intended voters at the polling unit in Duguri ward of Alkaleri LGA, and t blackmail the incumbent Governor in his ward contrary to section 114 of the Penal Code.
Haruna was arrested in 25, February and was taken to the Police Criminal Investigation Department before his arraignment on Tuesday at the Court.
However, eyewitness accounts said that Haruna was recording some women who were aggrieved over their inability to get employment with the State government after submission of their resumes at different quarters, saying they would register their grievances in the elections.
Meanwhile, at the hearing on Tuesday, the Chief Magistrate of Court 3, Ahmed Musa remanded the accused person at the Correctional Centre in Bauchi pending further hearing on Wednesday.
Following the denial of all the charges by the accused, Counsel to the accused, S.G Idrees sought bail application of his client.
Counsel from the Ministry of Justice, Harua Mohammed, applied to take over the case from the Police and continue with the case as contained in the 1999 constitution, but the presiding magistrate adjourned the case to tomorrow, Wednesday 1st March 2023 to enable him to rule the bail application.
