Community leader killed by suspected herders in Bayelsa

Following the attack and killing of the community deputy chief, Bob Wilson by suspected herdsmen in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, tension has again heightened at Akumoni community, Okordia clan.

Nigeriacrime.com gathered that the incident is coming a week after the gruesome killing of a farmer, Diri Alexander, by herders in neighbouring Yambiri community in Zarama clan in the same Yenagoa LGA.

According to indigenous in the community, the deceased deputy chief from Akumoni community in Okordia clan was on his way to a fishing lake in the forest identified as ‘Lake Sam’ when he met his untimely end on Monday.

He was reportedly shot by some armed herdsmen who have allegedly taken over the forest.

The victim was alone and carrying a cutlass which is normal practice when venturing into the forest by the locals.

The news of the attack was said to have triggered anger in the predominantly fishing and farming enclave with the youths spoiling for a showdown with the invading herders.

Contacted, the state police public relations officer, Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident.

He, however, said the information at his disposal was sketchy.
