A stolen AEDC Transformer and armoured cable have been recovered by police operatives attached to Niger State Police Command.
Nigeriacrime.com learned that the vehicle used to carry out the theft has also been recovered.
The incident happened in Mawogi village in Lapai local government area of Niger state last Saturday.
Curious villagers were said to have found a Ford Galaxy vehicle with registration Number KWB 670 AA in a nearby forest with the stolen cables in the village and subsequently alerted the Police.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Command Spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun said the suspects had fled and abandoned the stolen cable and the vehicle used on sighting the Police.
According to Abiodun, “On 08 July 2023 at about 10 pm, Police operatives attached to Lapai Division in collaboration with the community members searched the nearby forest and found some exhibits believed to have been vandalized and stolen by the hoodlums but the suspects escaped from the scene.
Explaining further, Abiodun said: “A Ford Galaxy vehicle with Reg. No. KWB 670 AA Vandalized transformer armoured cable, Industrial bolt cutter, Metal bar, Bags containing clothes and foodstuff were met in the vehicle.”
He said all the Items that were recovered have been kept in Police custody adding that investigation is ongoing just as he vowed that the suspects will be apprehended.
The state Commissioner of Police Ogundele Ayodeji commended the community for their partnership with the Police which led to the recovery of the exhibits just as he enjoined members of the public to always join hands with all Law Enforcement Agencies towards flushing out hoodlums from the state.
