Two siblings were reportedly killed on Saturday when part of a building in the Ishawo area of Ikorodu, Lagos collapsed.
Nigeriacrime.com gathered that the deceased were identified as Gbolahan and Yinka Atolagbe aged seven and nine respectively were trapped in the building when the incident occurred.
Confirming the incident, the South West Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA Ibrahim Farinloye, said: “This is to confirm the recovery of two children that were trapped in a partial building that collapsed at about 11: 30 a.m on Saturday morning at 25, Ajao Street, CWC, by Olainukan Bus-stop, Ishawo, Ikorodu.”
“The children were trapped when a fence from the neighbouring house fell on their building during the day’s heavy downpour.
“It was very unfortunate that distressed calls were not properly channelled to those whose responsibility was to save the life of the children at the right time.
“Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) are presently on ground to assess the situation.
May almighty forgive the deceased and console the parents”.
Meanwhile, giving a detailed situation report on the collapse of the hotel fence at 38 Community Road And 25, Alao Street Opposite Iyewa Road, Olainukan Bus Stop, inward Ishawo Bus Stop Ikorodu Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu PS LASEMA said “Upon arrival at the incident scene, a single storey hotel’s building fence at No. 38 Community Road was found to have collapsed on a three bed room flat (Bungalow) at No. 25 Alao Street, behind the hotel.
Further investigation revealed that the said building fence was weakened by poor drainage, resulting in its collapse on the house No 25 Alao street.
Two young boys aged seven and nine years, named Gbolahan and Yinka Atolagbe, lost their lives. They have since been buried according to Muslim rites.
The Agency’s LRT, Lagos State Fire Service, LNSC, LASBCA and the Community Excos are the responders at the incident scene.
The building has been cordoned off by the Agency’s LRT to avoid any secondary incident and handed over to LASBCA.
The operation concluded, and LRT heading back to base.
