Dried donkey genitals and dried shark fins with a total Free On Board, FOB value of N1.232 billion which was to be exported have been intercepted by officials of Murtala Mohammad Airport Command Nigeria Customs Service, NCS.
Nigeriacrime.com learned that some suspects are in custody over the intended export said to have contravened the export guidelines and failed to comply with CITES Law on endangered species as enshrined in the Nigeria Customs Service Act.
Confirming the development, at a press briefing the Customs Area Controller, CAC, Muhammed Sanni Yusuf, said that the Command also recorded a 17.14 per cent increase in revenue collection compared to the amount collected for the same period last year.
According to him, “During the period under review, Murtala Muhammed Airport Command generated a total of N47,2 billion which represents 83.24 per cent of the target met.
“When compared to the same period in 2022 of N40.3 billion a progressive difference of N7 billion representing a 17.14 per cent increase.
“In the area of Anti-smuggling the Command made remarkable successes through coordinated anti-smuggling activities in synergy with other critical stakeholders which led to the seizure of six packages of suspected Dried Shark Fins with FOB Value of N222 million and also 25 suspected Dried Donkey Genitals with FOB value of N1.2 billion.
“The suspects in connection with this illegal intended Export have been arrested and investigation is ongoing,” he noted.
