No fewer than 41 fighters from the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād, Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP), including their Commanders were killed after
Nigeriacrime.com learned that an infighting broke out Wednesday in the northeast of Borno State.
It was gathered from sources that the ISWAP terrorists who came on several canoes attacked the Bakoura Buduma-led faction of Boko Haram in the axis of Duguri in Kukawa Local Government Area.
Kukawa in Northern Borno senatorial district is about 130km drive from Maiduguri, the state capital.
Impeccable sources informed, which was also confirmed on Thursday by Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region that “the bloody encounter left 41 fighters dead on both sides including Commanders of the group”.
Makama said that the ISWAP dealt a heavy blow on the Boko Haram terrorists leaving many of their Commanders killed.
The source listed some of the Commanders to include; Modu Kayi, Abbah Musa, Isa Muhammed, Ibrahim Ali, Kanai Zakariya and Bula Salam, Isuhu Alhaji Umaru, Dogo Salman and Abdulrahman Malam Musa among others.
Clashes between Boko Haram and ISWAP became increasingly common and intense. Notably, in Borno state’s Sambisa forest and the Lake Chad region.
The ISWAP were now having an upper hand following the defection of one Abou Idris, a former chief of operation of Boko Haram, who joined ISWAP to fight his former group.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army on Thursday said a viral video clip purporting the capture of one of its armoured tanks by terrorists in the North West should be discountanced as it is false.
Director of Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu said the purported video was discovered to have been doctored after it was subjected to analysis.
He said, “The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a viral unsubstantiated and fabricated video clip circulating on the social media, portraying stage-managed capture of Nigerian Army Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) by Turji Bello, one of the infamous terrorist leaders in North West Nigeria.
“The NA wishes to emphatically state that there was no such incident that involved the capture of any of its APCs within the theatre of operations in the North West, as mischievously and falsely portrayed in the video.
“Analysis of the video clip reveals that the video was doctored, as NA vehicles including APCs have NA inscribed on the number plates, which is conspicuously missing on the reportedly captured APC in the video.
“Additionally, on our record, the entire events captured in the footage was not an occurrence that took place at any point in time within the shores of Nigeria, rather available data point to it, as an event that occurred in Burkina Faso sometime in 2021.
“Further investigation showed that the same video was posted on Facebook on 9 November 2021 with URL https://web.facebook.com/watch/?v=1544154362616622.
“Furthermore the NA maintains a high level of vigilance and professionalism in safeguarding own armoured vehicles by ensuring that they are not compromised by any criminal element.
“The NA therefore urges the public to be wary of misinformation and propaganda employed by the insurgents, aimed at precipitating fear and disrupting the peace and security of our nation.
