Bandits Kill 4 Vigilantes, Burnt Motorcycles in Birnin Gwari

Barely a day after bandits killed about 23 locals and injured 5 in the eastern part of Birnin Gwari Kaduna State, the hoodlums in a fresh attack on Maraban Agyaro village of Kakangi Ward of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, killed 4 members of the local vigilante group, kidnapped some and burnt their motorcycles.

The lawmaker representing the area, Hon. Yahaya Musa said the security agencies at Dogon Dawa had been put on high alert since the incidents occurred, while the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Mansur Hassan, said their operatives had been deployed to the community.

A source told journalists that the bandits attacked the locals while they were returning from a market on Thursday afternoon, and a vehicle conveying them was seen abandoned

“The driver and passengers in the car were taken away by the bandits,” the source said.

According to former Chairman of Birnin Gwari Emirates Progressive Union, Ishaq Usman Kasai, a military fighter jet was seen hovering in the area to find the bandits.

“About 4 people were killed at Maraban Agyaro along Kakangi-Birnin Gwari road. We are yet to ascertain the number of people abducted, including the driver,” he said.

A member representing Kakangi Ward at the state House of Assembly, Hon. Yahaya Musa DanSalio, said he was told 3 vigilantes were killed and one was missing.

“I was informed 3 vigilantes were killed; one other is missing, but we are still getting details of the incident. I have informed the Government House of the situation,” he said.

The lawmaker said that the son of the village head of Rafin Gora in his constituency was abducted by the bandits on Friday around 11 am when the victim went to fetch sand close to the town.

The villagers called on the authorities to deploy more troops to the area, as a high concentration of bandits in the Local Government Area had become a source of worry affecting their daily source of livelihood.
