The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Azeez Isa, who attempted to rob a new generation bank in the state.
The targeted bank is said to be situated opposite the Maplewood Estate in the Oko Oba area of the state.
According to the information available to NIGERIACRIME, the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday.
In a bid to break into the bank, the suspect was said to have used a sledgehammer to hit the security door of the financial institution.
A police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “The security guards attached to the bank heard the sound of someone hitting an object early in the morning.
“They traced the sound and found a man using a sledgehammer to hit the security door. He kept hitting the door repeatedly without minding that the sound could attract the attention of people around there.”
The police source said the security guards were at first scared because they didn’t know who else was with him during the operation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.
“We got the distress call around 4.20 am and our patrol team responded swiftly. The man was arrested while still breaking the door. He is in police custody and is currently being interrogated,” he said.
In another development, three persons have been reportedly killed by a heavy downpour that lasted several hours on Saturday at the Dakingari area of Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The Chairman of Suru Local Government Area, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Suru, said apart from the death of the three persons, the flood also destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
He said that after the heavy rain, the water coming down from the mountains around the town of Dakingari contributed to the flooding.
He stated, “For over twenty years, we have been battling with the flood when it rains. The past administrations of Nasamu Dakingari and Atiku Bagudu constructed drainages in the town to solve the problem but it didn’t stop the flood from occurring every year.”
According to him, the flood might be prevented if a concrete fence and outlet could be constructed around the mountains.
He called on the people of the area to desist from erecting buildings on waterways, as well as indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
