5 arrested for cultism, murder, in Delta state

Five suspects have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for cultism, murder and rape.

Nigeriacrime.com also learned that the command also rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered arms and drugs.

Confirming the development, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said: “On 21 October 2023 at about 11:36 PM, acting on credible intelligence about the activities of some suspected armed cultists of Jurists Confraternity around DSC Quarters in Udu LGA, who has been terrorising innocent citizens, the DPO Ekpan division CSP Aliyu Shaba led surveillance team of the Division to DSC Quarters in a coordinated operation and arrested one Emmanuel Egbegbor Boms aged 36 years and Obus Obukoko aged 32 years.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that they are suspected members of Jurists Confraternity, and on 22 October at about 2:15 PM the suspects led the operatives to the hideout of another member of the gang Moses Omoko at SEDCO Area Enerhen, the suspected was arrested, and the following exhibit were recovered: One (1) AK-49 rifle with two (02) magazines loaded with forty-one (41) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one locally made double barrel gun with two (02) live cartridges. Suspects and exhibits are in custody and investigation is ongoing.

“On 23rd October 2023 at about 10 AM, the DPO Sapele Division received a complaint that there was a kidnap incident along Warri-Sapele expressway. Upon receipt of the complaint, DPO Sapele mobilized a combined team from the Division, Area Command, tactical teams and vigilante; he then led them to the Ibada-Elume bushes including the swampy areas of the environment.

“At about 4:10 PM of the same date, the hoodlums on noticing that the team was closing in on them, abandoned their victims and took to their heels. Two kidnapped victims were rescued and have since been reunited with their families while a manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing.” It stated.

The Police Image maker added, “On Wednesday, 18 October 2023 at about 3:30 PM Ofuoma division’s Patrol team while on stop and search duty at Ofuoma Ughelli North LGA intercepted a Toyota Corolla Vehicle (Reg NO: AAA97FS).

“Upon sighting the police, the male driver took to his heel into the nearby bush, where he was given a hot chase but to no avail. When a search was immediately carried out on the vehicle, the following items were recovered: One Cut-to-Size single barrel gun; One Cut-to-Size Double Barrel Gun; One Single Barrel Gun; One Cutlass; and a sack bag containing a large portion of substances suspected to be crystal meth (ICE), cocaines, and thirteen wraps of Indian hemp. Effort is on to arrest the fleeing suspect.

“On 5th October 2023 at about 5 PM, one Mrs Joy Chukwudi reported that while she was about bathing her 4-year-old daughter, she discovered a blood stain in the private part of her daughter. Upon questioning, her daughter kept stating that “her uncle at the school used scissors to cut her on virgina”. Upon receipt of this complaint, the Area commander Agbor detailed a team of investigators to proceed to the scene of the alleged crime.

“The suspect Innocent Ezeukwu who doubles as the owner of the school and also the only male teacher in the school was arrested and taken into custody. Preliminary investigation led to the issuance of a medical report, and the initiation of an identification exercise where the suspect, Innocent Ezeukwu when placed amongst random men, was identified by the victim as the person who allegedly defiled her.

“The medical report affirmed that there was “no hymen visualised” in the victim privatevictim’sThough the Area Command Agbor had concluded their investigation and charged the case to court, there was a counter directive from the Commissioner of Police who instructed that the case be withdrawn from the court and immediately transferred to the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID) for further meticulously executed investigation.

“On 18th October 2023, at bout 9 AM, one Nnajiofor Nweke ‘m’ father to one Emmanuel Nweke went to Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Agbor where his child schools. The suspect went to the school premises aggressively in search of one of the school teachers over a punishment meted out to his son at the school.

“The suspect on sighting the said teacher picked up a cane in the school and started flogging him during which another teacher one Ufah Sunday while trying to mediate and stop him until slumped and was rushed to central hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor. The suspect is currently in custody and the investigation is ongoing.” He added.
