The Ibassa Ijegun-Egba Youth Association has denied the alleged involvement in cultists activities and killing of innocent people as reported by some media houses on Friday.
Mr Kareem Idowu, the Chairman of the association on Monday at a press conference in Lagos said members of the association are law abiding citizens and respecters of the rule of law.
According to the chairman, it was our story on the cultist activities in the community in different media that prompted the men of Tactical (Squad)Team Area E and K commands of Nigeria Police to intervene.
“They came on Thursday Jan. 24, busted them and captured some members of this deadly cultist groups and arrested 14 of the members.
“Shortly after the Police left the community, other members of cultist that escaped arrest descended on the community.
“They started their criminal and inhumane treatment on the members of the community which made the situation became worse than it was before.
“It became a massive operation thereby flying their arms and ammunition in broad-day light,” he said.
The chairman said that it was unfortunately that some people that were using these groups came up with false allegations as if they were not aware of the menace caused by cultists activities in Ibassa, Ijegun-Egba.
“We are committed to give total support to the Law Enforcement Agencies and other relevant agencies in order to ensure that sanity is being restored in the community.
‘We will also continue to encourage the entire community on the need to be law abiding citizens and not to in anyway take the laws in their hands.
“All the allegations of Police attack, missing persons are nothing but cooked facts and unrepentantly biased towards the peaceful and respectful youths of the community.
“We want the general public to discard any false information by those evil set of groups.
“Since these hoodlums were released base on their leaders, they are destroying properties, residents of the community are scared of going about with their daily businesses,” he said.
He called President Bola Tinubu, Governor of Lagos State, the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to intervene and ensure peace and stability in the Ibasa Ijegun-Egba Community.
