A 22-year-old man, identified as Botswar was Monday stoned to death and his remains burnt by an irate mob at Agidi village in Konshisha Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state after he was alleged to have raped and murdered his brother’s wife in a farm.
Nigeriacrime.com gathered from a source in the area that the young man had last Friday accompanied the murdered woman to the farm in Achoho community and that was the last time the duo were seen.
According to him, “When they could not be seen, the youths of the community and family members commenced a search for them in the bushes and neighbouring communities.
“Unfortunately the lifeless body of the woman was discovered on Saturday in the bush with signs of rape and matchet cuts on her head and nose while Botswar was nowhere to be found.
“He was later traced to Tse-Agberagba, the headquarters of Konshisha LGA, where his mother got married after her first marriage. And the youths caught him at Agidi village where he was reported to have confessed to the crime.
“He was said to have struck the unsuspected woman with a cutlass on her head and nose and when she fell, he took her under a mango tree and raped her; after which he fled.
“After confessing, the angry mob did not waste time with him, and they refused to take him to the police. They immediately stoned him to death and set his corpse ablaze.”
Efforts to reach the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene were unsuccessful.
