Disaster struck at the Badume vegetable market in the Bichi local government area of Kano State as two people were confirmed dead and over 100 shops were razed down by fire.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi said two people died.
Explaining how they died, he said three persons were trapped, including a female and two males.
Abdullahi explained that a rescue team was quickly mobilized to the scene and were rescued unconscious and later taken to the hospital and two were confirmed dead.
He charged the public to use fire and electrical appliances with care to avoid inferno.

The PRO said the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, fire incident has reportedly gutted the office of the National Open University of Nigeria in Dutse, Jigawa state.
According to a source, the incident in the early hours of Saturday, consuming office furniture and other valuable items.
He explained that the state fire service, other security agencies and good Samaritans helped in quenching the flame which raged for an hour.
The spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adamu Shehu confirmed the incident.
He said the inferno had gutted the NOUN office which is on the fourth floor of the Federal secretariat in Dutse.
He also noted that the efforts of security agencies helped prevent the spread of the flame to other parts of the secretariat complex.
