Murder: Court admits exhibit tendered against Chinese national, Geng

The Kano High Court presided over by Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji has admitted a knife tendered as exhibit ‘A’ against the Chinese national, Geng Quanrong in the ongoing trial over the murder case of his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Sani Buhari.

The Prosecution counsel and Attorney General of the state, Bar. Musa Lawan had tendered the exhibit marked exhibit 198/2022 before the court through the Prosecution Witness, PW 4, Inspector Chinda Chiwari attached to the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Kano State.

NigeriaCrime.com learned that Inspector Chiwari while testifying against the defendant, said the Chinese national, Geng voluntarily confessed to killing his Nigerian lover, Ummu with a knife during an interview to take his statement at the command.

He said Geng confessed to stabbing her twice with the knife after a misunderstanding ensued between the duo and where she slapped him on his face.

According to him, “I could recall on the 16th September 2022, I was on duty post at the State CID when a case of culpable homicide was transferred from Dorayi Police station. The case was referred to me as the team leader alongside two other officers.

“In the course of the investigation, we interviewed the Defendant in English and ask him to freely tell us what transpired between him and the deceased.

“He (defendant) said sometime in 2020, the deceased got his number from her friend and told him she was interested in him and so he fell in love with her until sometime in February 2022 when she got married to another person.

“After she got married, the marriage lasted for 2 months after which she was divorced and returned to him and they continued their relationship.

“On a fateful day, 16th September 2022 and at about 9 p.m, he visited the deceased as usual and on arriving at the frontage of the house, the deceased’s sister came out and took a dog the deceased gave to him (the defendant) inside and shut the door against him. He continued knocking but the door was not opened. Disturbed by the knocking which lasted for about 30 minutes forced the deceased’s mother to come and open the door.

When the gate was opened, he entered the house where he took the dog intending to come out of the house but the deceased stopped him that he would not go out with the dog and that she will call the police. This is what generated their misunderstanding and the deceased slapped him on the face and in the process he used a sharp knife in his possession to stab the deceased twice.

“He orally confessed. …I took the knife which was transferred along with him as an exhibit and showed him which he confirmed to be the knife he used in stabbing the deceased,” he said.

During the cross-examination by the Defence counsel, Muhammad Dan’azumi, the inspector said that there was a sign of bite mark on the defendant’s left arm and one of his fingers.

Earlier while giving his witness account, the PW 3, Mustapha Abubakar told the court that when he came into the house to rescue the deceased he dragged the defendant who was holding onto a knife stained with blood.

“I saw her gasping on the verge of death. I tried to lift her but her body was heavy. I called a neighbour on the phone to come with a doctor because blood was gushing out of her body. She was taken to the hospital in the defendant’s car. While they were taking her to the hospital, I went and change my cloth because of the blood stain. We were later told Ummu is dead,” Abubakar said.

The prosecution counsel, Bar. Musa Lawan, however, tendered the knife as an exhibit against the defendant which the Defence counsel, Dan’azumi did not object to.

He however told the court it plans to present more witnesses tomorrow, Friday.

The presiding Judge, Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji admitted the exhibit of knife used by the defendant as exhibit A and adjourned the case for continuation of hearing tomorrow, Friday.
