17 kidnapped travellers rescued in Edo State

Operatives attached to the Edo State Police Command have rescued seventeen (17) victims (male and female) who were abducted by kidnappers.

The victims were rescued at about 6:35 pm along Benin – Lagos Expressway between Ugbogwi and Ohosu communities, in Edo State.

NigeriaCrime.com learned that the rescued victims were passengers of a mass transit Bus who were travelling from Delta State heading to Lagos state but were attacked and kidnapped by six herdsmen who emerged from the bush with AK47 Riffles and Pump-Action guns shooting sporadically at vehicles and finally kidnapped twenty (20) persons into the bush.

Confirming the victim’s rescue, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, Police Public Relations Officer Edo State Police Command said the rescue was part of the state command’s efforts to nip kidnapping in the bud and other related violent crimes in the state.

According to Nwabuzor on Sunday, 20th November 2022, seventeen Kidnap victims were rescued.

The kidnapped but rescued victims were passengers of a mass transit Bus who were travelling from Delta State heading to Lagos state but were attacked and kidnapped by six Herdsmen who emerged from the bush with AK47 Riffles and Pump-Action guns shooting sporadically at vehicles and finally kidnapped twenty persons into the bush.”

“Immediately, the operatives of Safer High Way Edo South alongside other teams of Police officers covering the long stretch of the expressway moved to the direction of the gunshot, engaged the kidnappers and rescued seventeen persons while three others were taken away into the bush. Meanwhile, a serious Manhunt operation through bush combing strategies is currently ongoing for possible rescue of the victims unhurt and the arrest of the Kidnappers.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Edo Command CP Mohammed A. Dankwara, has given a marching order to the command’s Tactical Teams to go after the Kidnappers, arrest and rescue the victims unhurt.
