Kwara Court Remands Four For Destroying Billboards, Posters

A Kwara-based court has remanded four suspects for allegedly destroying campaign billboards and posters in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

This was made known in the state capital by the  Police Commissioner, Paul Odama, who said the security outfit immediately carried out an investigation after the suspects were arrested and “charged them to court, after which they were remanded even before anyone could call me.”

Responding to newsmen on whether the police was pressured on the matter, the police boss clarified that no one called for the release of the suspects.

Also, Odama said that the suspects in police custody are of different political parties and not just members of a particular party in the state.

The commissioner expressed concern that as campaigns gather momentum, some political parties have recently destroyed the billboards of other political parties.

According to the police commissioner, it is a criminal offense to destroy billboards of political rivals.

“I have informed all the Divisional Police Officers, DPOs in the state to send out their patrol and surveillance teams.

“Anybody caught trying to destroy the billboards or posters of any other political party, will be arrested and prosecuted,” he warned.

He cautioned the good people of the state that “election is not war, they should go about their campaigns in accordance with the rules of the electoral law.”
